Keep a Red Hat Storage 2.0 Server Updated Through Red Hat Satellite Server

• Updated May 31, 2014

Red Hat Storage 2.0 is typically installed via the ISO image. Out of the box, a Red Hat Storage 2.0 install will retrieve its updates from the Red Hat Network. However, if you want to keep the Red Hat Storage 2.0 server updated internally via a Red Hat Satellite Server there are a few requirements:

  1. A functioning, entitled Red Hat Satellite server
  2. A Satellite Entitlement Certificate with the Extended Update Support (EUS) Add-on
  3. A Satellite Entitlement Certificate with the Red Hat Storage 2.0 Child Channel

satellite-sync the Necessary Parent and Child Software Channels

The needed Parent and Child Software Channels are:

  1. Channel Name: RHEL EUS Server (v. 6.2.z for 64-bit x86_64) Channel Label: rhel-x86_64-server-6.2.z
  2. Channel Name: Red Hat Storage Server 2.0 (RHEL 6.2.z for x86_64) Channel Label: rhel-x86_64-server-6-rhs-2.0
  3. Channel Name: RHEL EUS Server Scalable File System (v. 6.2.z for x86_64) Channel Label: rhel-x86_64-server-sfs-6.2.z

Sync them up with the following command:

satellite-sync -c rhel-x86_64-server-6.2.z -c rhel-x86_64-server-6-rhs-2.0 -c rhel-x86_64-server-sfs-6.2.z

Entitle the Satellite Organization

This is only necessary if there is more than one Satellite Organization and the Satellite Organization that needs the Entitlements is not organization 0.

Add Satellite Channel Entitlements for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (v. 6) Extended Update Support to make the RHEL EUS Server (v. 6.2.z for 64-bit x86_64) Parent Software Channel available.

Add Satellite Channel Entitlements for Red Hat Storage (for Server v6) to make the Red Hat Storage Server 2.0 (RHEL 6.2.z for x86_64) Child Software Channel available.

Add Satellite Channel Entitlements for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server Large File System (v. 6) Extended Update Support to make the RHEL EUS Server Scalable File System (v. 6.2.z for x86_64) Child Software Channel available.

rhn_register the Red Hat Storage 2.0 Server

If everything above is setup properly, the Red Hat Storage 2.0 Server will sync up with the RHEL EUS Server (v. 6.2.z for 64-bit x86_64) Parent Software Channel on your Red Hat Satellite server when registering it with rhn_register. If for some reason it does not sync up to this channel, log in to your Red Hat Satellite server, go to the System Profile for the Red Hat Storage 2.0 server, and click Alter Channel Subscriptions to modify the Parent Software Channel.

After the Red Hat Storage 2.0 Server is registered, log in to your Red Hat Satellite Server, go to the System Profile for the Red Hat Storage 2.0 server, go to Alter Channel Subscriptions, and add the Red Hat Storage Server 2.0 (RHEL 6.2.z for x86_64) and RHEL EUS Server Scalable File System (v. 6.2.z for x86_64) Child Software Channels.

At this point, the Red Hat Storage 2.0 server will only receive updates specific to Red Hat Storage 2.0.
